Humidity bags

Two-way humidity packs are the most reliable humidification available to a home smoker, and by a wide margin the most reliable in an Australian climate. A salt solution held in a permeable sachet both releases and absorbs moisture to hold a fixed RH, so it corrects a humidor that is drifting in either direction — which a sponge or crystal humidifier cannot do.

Choose the RH to suit where you are, not the number on the internet. 69–72% suits Melbourne, Adelaide and dry inland areas, where the risk is a humidor bleeding moisture through a heated winter. 65% is the safer choice in Brisbane, Cairns and Darwin, where ambient humidity plus warmth makes mould and tobacco beetle the bigger threat.

Replace them when they go rigid. A pack that has crystallised has stopped regulating.
