A cigar case exists to solve one problem: cigars survive being carried, but not being carried loose. A cigar in a jacket pocket cracks at the foot, picks up whatever the pocket smells of, and dries out within hours in Australian summer air.

A fitted leather case holds the cigar under light, even pressure along its length and buffers humidity for a day or two — long enough for a dinner, a round of golf, or a flight. The cedar-lined versions do rather better, because cedar both moderates humidity and keeps the cigar tasting of cedar rather than of leather.

Match the case to the ring gauge you actually smoke. A robusto rattling around in a case cut for a Churchill will still take damage.
