The Ligne 2 is the lighter S.T. Dupont is known for, and the reason is the sound. Opening the cap produces a distinct high 'cling' — a by-product of the brass construction that the manufacture now tunes deliberately and that is genuinely difficult to counterfeit.
Mechanically it is a soft-flame lighter: a wide, gentle flame that toasts the foot rather than blasting it. It is slower than a torch and it will not stay lit in real wind, but it is markedly kinder to a wrapper, and for a thin vitola or an aged Cuban that is worth the extra thirty seconds.
Le Grand is the larger-bodied version with a taller flame, which makes it more practical for cigars above about 48 ring gauge.
